ok guys, i got a question

when i go into hardware irq settings i scroll down and i see 11, five times. does that mean that all of those things are sharing that irq? help me out, i don't know what the hell that is. ive never had problems with my irq's before. please help, thanks guys!

it says my video card, sound card, and nic card are all on 11, also there are two via usb host controllers. any help is appreciated, thanks!

oh yeah, my sig is a just a joke :)

Uh, are you kidding or do you not know about IRQ sharing? I can't tell. If you're kidding, then I applaud your deadpan delivery. If you're not, then search for IRQ sharing. There are lots of threads, lots of sites on the net, etc.

Alpha... It should be fine. Irq sharing was a problem with old setups but not really anymore. You shouldn't have a problem.

Hey, no offense meant. Just couldn't tell if I was falling into a "trap."

IRQ sharing is part of the "new" ACPI spec. It was designed to free up the limited number of IRQs available on x86 processors for other devices. This sharing occurs in Win98 or in Win2k if you're running the ACPI hardware abstraction layer. The only thing you should be sure to do is install your MB chipset drivers (like Via 4 in 1 drivers, which install Irq Routing drivers in Win98)

But the long and short of it is that 99% of the time, IRQ sharing is a NICE thing to have b/c it's nice and automatic. Plug and Play devices that are supported behave nicely together (most of the time) and are perfectly happy sharing an IRQ as long as the right IRQ handler gets called eventually for the interrupt request.

Right now, I have about 5 things on IRQ 9 as I write this.

Hope that helps. Once again, I didn't mean any disrespect earlier. I was just thrown off by the fact that you're a Senior Member for a sec...

thanks for the apology. no offense taken. ive just been having problems recently with this setup. i keep getting random reboots while burning. not random reboots, but bsods. i hate it, and i think its my irq's, but i could be wrong.
