Well, the ClawHammer and Athlon will likely coexist kind of like the Pentium 4 and Pentium III coexist today. By Q1 2003 all high-end OEM desktops will probably be ClawHammers and middle and low-end will be Athlon XP's.

That's correct. In fact, AMD said that revenues in 2003 would be close to evenly split between the Hammer and Athlon, which I find somewhat confusing, considering that would mean that AMD isn't expecting all that much Hammer volume in 2003. You would think that would mean that Hammer would be delayed, but AMD keeps saying that they will be selling/shipping ClawHammer processors in Q4 of this year so.....
 
this statement saddens me. 🙁 So i have to look toward VIA for my next Athlon upgrade? 🙁🙁

if getting a new motherboard/chipset is so important, why not upgrade to hammer at the same time?
