<< It is not clear so far, how greatly increased the performance of the new SiS645 (A2) chipset revision compared with the previous A1 revision. However, as we remember, the old chipset revision was really fast especially when working with PC2700 DDR SDRAM (see our article called SiS645 Chipset: DDR333 for Pentium 4 Platforms). So, now SiS645 has everything necessary to become an indisputable performance leader among all existing Pentium 4 chipsets. Note that SiS managed to avoid possible negative reaction of the customers like the one, which emerged after the launching of KT266A or VIA P4X266A... >>

No, really? As opposed to PC2100? Whoa

ROFLMAO.

SiS going "the way" of VIA? I don't think so.

SiS 645 is already, unquestionably, THE performance leader among ALL P4 chipsets.

In stark contrast, VIA's "non-A" chipsets are often the lowest (or nearly so) performing of the group, ridden with bugs and issues.

Candoman don`t waste your time with Pabster he`s a well known VIA flamer around here and most people just ignore him ;).
Btw welcome to Anandtech :).

"Real soon the P4X333 + ATA133 southbridge and 533 MB/s internal bandwidth will be released, that's why SiS rushed the 'new' version of their 645 to market. They want to stay competetive, that's it."

And everyone will laugh, and wait for the "A" revision. SiS 645's MuTiOL already offers 533MB/s internal bandwidth. It already offers native PC2700 support.

And again I repeat: SiS 645 is already the speediest solution. Period. It isn't like those who got screwed over by VIA with P4X266 and its plethora of issues. Do you really think all those people are gonna plop down another $120 for an "A" revision?

I've got to agree with Pabster on this. VIA + P4 = a$$

<< Sorry, but what 'issues' with the P4X266 are you talking about? I haven't heard of a single issue with any of the latest VIA chipsets since the KT133A days, and it was a year ago. >>

Anyone care to comment how well the Sis 645 or 645A overclock compared to the Intel i845B/D. How stable is it when all memory slots are filled! Please, provide links for reviews that support your statements.

The fact is: Asus P4B266 can run much faster than P4S333 using the same CPU and memory (DDR333) because the P4B266 overclock to much higher FSB and, thus, higher CPU frequency.

I am writing this on a VIA P4A266 motherboard (Shuttle AV-40). It is rock stable and allows moderate overclock. The only problem I ever heard from other users and from my own experience is that I have to scale back the OC when I use more than one DDR stick.
