Can the SIS 746 unofficially run at 200MHz FSB? Anyone running a t-bred or barton at 200MHz on your L7S7A2? LMK thanks.

No the 746 ONLY truely supports 166Mhz. It MIGHT do 200Mhz, but the 748 will do it.

I have the 746 in the ecs board and it work great for a cheap system or for me a backup computer

I have a Asrock sis746fx motherboard and I've got my 2500 Barton running at 11x200mhz (2.2ghz) with no problems at all, it's cheaper than getting a real 3200 Barton! :)

If you want 200mhz FSB guaranteed then get a SIS748 otherwise try a Asrock sis746fx and take a chance. It's not a board for serious overclockers though because you can only change the fsb and not the multiplier.

I can't comment on the ECS but as far as the Asrock sis746fx is concerned it's been running very stable. I havn't had a single crash since I installed it 4months ago and I've been working it VERY hard.

746 - 133 MHz. 746FX - 166 MHz. 748 - 200 MHz. So asking 200 out of a plain 746 is a far leap.

With my asrock 746fx it does mention in the manual that the board can run at 200mhz FSB and
there's also a jumper on the motherboard for 200mhz FSB support. I'm not sure if it's the same with other motherboards using the 746fx chipset however.

The BIOS for my K7S8X allows 200 FSB. And as mentioned above it has a jumper too.

I've found it to be a very good board, it's performance is no match for an Nforce2 but I've found it to be very reliable. If your into overclocking in a serious way then avoid this board because it lacks alot of features you need for overclocking. (IE you can't change the multiplier and the memory timings are limited.) If you can live with that then it's a good motherboard which can use all of the latest athlon xp processors and the board doesn't cost very much. It's pretty feature packed with onboard lan, 6 pci slots, usb2 etc so Asrock didn't cut the board down at all which is unusual for a budget motherboard.

The latest bios for this motherboard is v1.90 and Asrock seem to fix reported problems quickly. So far I've not had any experience with their technical support department because I havn't had to use it so I can't comment on that.

If you want more information then you can find it HERE!

As for compatibility:-

The video cards I've used with this motherboard are, a 64mb gainward geforce4 mx440 (4xagp), 128mb msi geforce4 ti4200 (8xagp), 128mb sapphire radeon 9200 (8xagp), 64mb sapphire radeon 9000 pro (4xagp), 128mb ati radeon 9600 pro (8xagp), 64mb visiontek geforce 3 (4xagp), 128mb xfx geforce fx 5200 (8xagp) and a 256mb xfx geforce fx 5600 (8xagp).

As for processors I tested the motherboard with a duron 1.3ghz, athlon xp 1700 (thoroughbred b) and a athlon xp 2500 barton.

I'm happy to report that I didn't experience a single problem with any of the video cards or processors! :)

The ONLY problem I've ever had with the motherboard was with the onboard sound driver causing crashing in games. This is easily fixed by using the updated v32 driver instead of the standard v25 driver which is on the cd. This can be obtained from HERE!

If you visit HERE you will see a very good setup guide for this motherboard. It will tell you in which order everything should be installed for a problem free installation.
