Ok to be frank, I DONT have a up to date Athlon system, I use a AMD 751 Irongate with a Slot A 550 MHZ Classic Athlon. I want to get a Athlon system (I'd wait for a "Hammer" but its features really dont interest me) I want an SiS chipset (I was looking at a MSI 745 Ultra, looks good) But I want AGP 3.0, USB 2.0, Nice Sound intergrated.

Any body have any word on when it will arrive. I have time to spare, end of August to mid september, if it comes out later than that I wont be interested. Will it be better than the KT400 (I like VIA, I have an Apollo Pro 133) Its good and all but I have issues with it, I dont want a P4 yet, I LOVE P3's. Will the SiS chipset be better STABILITY wise than the VIA? Thanks for reading.

Have you looked at the Nforce2? It has all the specs you're after and seems as though it will have excellent performance! The SPP looks like it'll be sweet as long as the price tag isn't jacked up like the first Nforce was making other boards/chipsets more attractive for the money. I know SiS is really embracing the P4 platform so I don't know if they'll drag their heels on the 746+S release or not? Of course for that matter when will the Nforce2 hit the streets? The SiS 746 chipset does look to be another solid offering which will undoubtedly be in the lower price range. Heck, now that Abit has agreed to start outsourcing boards to ECS to manufacture and has anounced that they (Abit) will be entering the budget board market we may see a bada$$ version of the 746 with all the O/Cing tweaks right off instead of releasing a sktA board based on the SiS chipset well after it was replaced as the performance champ

Sorry I don't have any better idea than you when either chipset will be available :(

I've taken your advise and peeked at the Nforce 2, its a great chipset and all. But I don't really see the need for dual channel DDR since the Athlon cannot utilize it (well extra bandwidth for the GPU I guess huh?)

I'm torn now, SiS to me has always been a good company, I had many Socket 7 chipsets from them (Via and ALi dont stand a chance) So since its been a WHILE (hehe 2.5 years) since a scheduled upgrade, I want to go back to the good old days. SiS does look into the p4 omarket more, but I wouldn't count the 746 out yet.

DDR 400 and more goodies, but I want an MSI board though (I KNOW why Abit went to ECS for outsourcing cheap motherboards, I wouldnt go near ECS' anyhow) I'll probably look for an MSI or Epox board based on Nforce 2 and SiS 746, but in the end Price will be the bottom line. (I hope 98Se supports both, I have 2000 and XP Pro, but I aint a good networker)

I concur about SiS, I had/built several a K7S5As and K7SEMs and I'm currently using a P4S333 and all have been great boards with great price tags so don't think I'm trying to dis SiS  I just thought I'd throw the Nforce2 out there for you edification as well since it meets your criteria and is from what I've read, a very fast chipset.

The real question is if it will arrive. Most of SiS' AMD boards seem to get announced then cancelled. Hopefully MSI will realize the popularity of the 745 Ultra isn't a fluke and will make a 746 Ultra. I suppose ECS and Asus will make 746 boards, but the 745 Ultra is a much more well-rounded board.

Guess you can tell I have a 745 Ultra ;). One of the best boards I've ever owned. It's running at 9x5x190MHz FSB with a stick of Crucial PC2100. Stable as a rock, too. Only things I wish it had were an extra PCI slot and/or onboard LAN.
