sis 735 report

In my opinion it's the best Athlon chipset out right now. No stanility issues, or anything. Very High performing. The only issue is that right now there's only 2 boards out, and while those boards are very cheap, they have no-ocing options, but for the non-ocer, u can't go wrong with ECS K7S5A, it's just though to find right now.

If i was upgrading at this present time with Athlon, then this chipset would be my choice.
If Sis can keep this good work up with their 645 chipset for the P4 they may have a new zealot in me 😀
I wonder though just how many mobo makers are being bullied at the moment with this chipset - seems strange how ECS/PCChips can pop them out, yet other mobo manufacturers appear to be dragging their release dates to the point where the chipset is going to miss its window 🙁

i don't think we can comment too much on compatibility and stability yet... there just haven't been enough boards to sample and whatnot.

But it seems from a small sample of users that the pcchips/ecs boards that have been available have been pretty good (no real OC, but who cares, that's not the main issue here.. not yet anyway). Hope it turns out that way for all the other manufacs... the small cost is an extremely attrictive feature.

I think I'll wait for SIS 735 boards from MSI or asus. I think many other board manufacturers have been presuaded by the benchmarks and are planning a sis 735 solution. I am definately buying an 735 board. I will wait till the name brands are out though.

ECS board is very good board. I dont think it is completely void of ocing options. Besides not many people overclock or even need to overclock.

This is too much - ive been having my nose rubbed in these ECS Sis 735 mobo's so much recently.
Resistance was futile, so ive just ordered one 🙂
Im just going to wait for the price drop of the P4's to make the 1gig TBirds a giveaway, then i'll let u guys know how i get on with it 🙂
I wish more people would buy this board and spend the money saved on a better video card or summit. Overclocking is overrated IMO anyway and be far better to get a better video card than try and squeeze your CPU for cycles we dont NEED at the moment.
Go Sis, go 😀 </end of rant>

I've been using them for a few recent A/1.2DDR builds, with excellent results. I ran them through some long loops of 3DMark2001 and Content Creation Winstone 2001 (Anand's torture test) and they seem every bit as stable a Microstar board.

And at $67 on Pricewatch for the ECS K7S5A, $38 less than the cheapest equivalent KT266 board from Epox or MSI, you can just put the money into a faster CPU -- who needs overclocking? The price difference is equivalent to the jump from an A/1.0/266 to an A/1.4/266!
