Hi all,

I've just read the rave reviews over at tomshardware.com and a few other sites about the sis 735.

I'm not going to overclock.

I currently have:
a 750Mhz T'bird 200FSB
20GB Western Digital HD
SB Live
Win 2K/98SE
Geforce2Mx

As you can see i m definitely more concerned with the budget than with extra features.

Does anyone know where I can get this chipset (i searched pricewatch, it couldn't find it, and ibuyer.net didnt have a listing either). Or when it is going to be available for purchase, and what the likely price is going to be?

Also does anyone have any additional plus/negative points about this chipset, barring SiS's quite poor track record.

Well, various sites reviewed engineering samples of the chipset, and they were all (every one that I read) very impressed. Being SiS means cheap and stable. The main concern would be performance, but the previews would indicate otherwise. I think SiS is marred by their focus on CHEAP and INTEGRATED, but they seem wanting to turn that around now. Back in the days of the 486, a SiS board with VLB was almost standard.

Where did you get your motherboard from? Or did you buy a full computer and get it with that?

Thanks

It's simple, SiS735 owns, performance is better than AMD760 and VIA KT266, and i guess that Asus A7S266 will cost around 1500sek, sorry 150$, when on the other hand Asus A7N266 with 128bit memory controller and DD5.1 sound will cost at least 350$. I mean the SiS735 chipset costs 27$ while nForce with 128bit memory controller and DD5.1 sound costs 100$.

Get it here http://www.1stclasstech.com/ecsk7s5amotc.html for about $73 shipped. If your budget is limited get the 1.2GHz, currently $114 shipped at pricewatch. You saved so much money you can dump the Geforce MX and get the Radeon LE for $71 shipped. Overclock it to 180-200MHz and use Radeon Tweaker to enable Hyper Z, and bang, you have 99% the performance of a Radeon 64MB DDR. If you get a very good heatsink with a Delta fan, you can pencil in the L7 bridges on your 750 to get 1.85v, then try the 133MHz fsb. With a little luck you will reach 1GHz for free!
