SiS 645 - stuttering sound + sluggish mouse

I have the EPoX 4SDA (SiS 645 chipset), with a Hercules GFII soundcard, and a 10/100 NIC, GF2MX, and finally a USB mouse.
Whenever the HDD is accessed heavily, the sound is sluggish and stutters and the mouse is sluggish (not chunky, but sluggish).
I have both the USB and HDD controller set to use the "embedded bus" in the bios, when the HDD was on the PCI bus, it had the same problem. It also does this sometimes when the drive is not being heavily accessed, I think it's got something to do with the display, donno for sure what's causing it when the HDD isn't being accessed.

Does anyone else have this problem? I think my AGP drivers for the mobo is V1.08d or something...
there aren't any "4-in-1"-ish drivers for SiS, right? just the AGP driver?

Thanks.

Sounds like you're HD is running in PIO mode. Check in the device manager.. Sis chipsets sometimes wil lget stuck in PIO mode..especially if the OS is installed without ACPI enabled..

If it is indeed running in PIO mode and you still can't get DMA, Let me know and I have a little reg program that will enable UDMA. 🙂
