SiriusXM fires 'Opie & Anthony' shock jock

Its more of a code of conduct thing. I just read about it some woman pissed him off and he went on a twitter rage rant. Nothing happened on the radio, funny a successful guy being held to the same standard as regular folks is odd.

Sounds like he broke his legally binding contract with his employer. Either that or he's trying to drum up more listeners and/or has a book about to be released.

If the employer doesn't back down I say good riddance. There's far too many "shock" media personnel.

Been a listener for quite a few years, this has nothing to do with a book release or getting listeners. I'd add that it has nothing to do with any contract either, considering he has said similar things countless times on air. Also, just for the record, hes used words like savage and animal to describe people of all races when they cover headlines on their show, so it's not some slur code word like the articles imply.

You mean like the central park 5 who were called animals.

The Duke lacross students were just called students.

Both incidents were false rape charges. What exactly was the difference???

Just sayin'

Are you talking about Cumia, or the news?

SiriusXM got new management last year that was "restructuring" to drop all libertarian pro-life pro-self defense pro-freedom radio stations, cricital of the establishment, including The Alex Jones Show.

Opie and Anthony used a parody/sarcasm like way to talk about some of the things from the alternative media. Even tho it didn't look like they were serious about it. I am not totally sure about this as I just seen the news and I haven't followed them much, but it may still be more to the story.

Ant has his prejudices, but he always backs up his arguments with facts. What we do know is that he was assaulted by an African American woman while he was taking pictures on public property. I think most sane people would agree that this was an overreaction. Nor would any woman physically attack a man if they genuinely felt threatened by the behaviour. You run and get yourself out of the situation. Unfortunately, this woman has not come forward to tell her side of the story AFAIK, so we have to assume Ant is telling the truth. His only mistake was not filing a police report.

So here's a guy who was assaulted and did not fight back. He goes on Twitter to complain about it. People don't like what he was saying about the violence issue in the black community, so started rallying around like rabid vultures. SiriusXM took the cowards way out and fired him.

This sends the message that if someone is doing something you don't like, it's okay to physically attack them. Yet it's not okay to say something that may hurt someone's feelings. I'm sorry, what? It would be a different story if he was screaming "N--- this" and "N---that". I follow him on Twitter and have been watching this whole issue playing out. He never used any racist language. Though some of the language and threats directed against him is downright disturbing. I have to admire him for standing his ground. Besides, the company hired him knowing full well what he was like.

Of course now SiriusXM has to deal with hoards of O&A fans cancelling their subscriptions. Count me as one of them. The new management of the company has been doing an awful job anyway. Programming quality has been dropping dramatically since the merger. With O&A gone, there's not much reason to keep paying $16/mo for it.

Honestly, I think they wanted to drop the show for a while and were just looking for any excuse. Opie has been quiet on the whole thing. Jim Norton has said he supports Anthony but has no idea what's going to happen next. I can't see the show continuing on SiriusXM. The company could still cave if they lose enough business over it. Though if that happens, O&A probably won't renew their contracts. They've been talking about doing a podcast for awhile now. I can see them ending up on Bob Kelly's RiotCast network.

Let's ignore the real problem...savages reacting with violence in non violent situations. If people want to equate savages with "black people", that is their own racist problem.

"Savage violent animal fucks prey on white people. Easy targets. This wise and beautiful woman has no clue how lucky she was. She belted me 10 times. I had a gun"

Truly a mystery why he was fired. I'm sure he's being perfectly honest here too.

I have almost the same exact reaction to this.

I used to have O&A on my local local station, I was never a fan of having to pay more for XM content (don't get me started on how poorly Sirius is managed). Maybe the lack of O&A could free some money up for Bubba

One thing to note, the incidence's occurred about 20 years apart from each other.

yea they dropped coast to coast, pissed me off.

I think its some beef between Sirius and clear channel.

You don't know shit. He's only telling you what he says happened...

In major news papers, no I do not believe they would be called animals today

Oh yes they would. Although, the go-to word is 'thug' but I have seen the NY Post call blacks animals many times. For whites, the word is usually 'mentally ill'.

He did post pictures of her in his face, arms waving like a doofus, but no it doesn't prove she hit him. Proof it happened like he said shouldn't really matter in the context of his firing however, since he got canned for the language he used on Twitter, not the situation on the street.

Anthony is both the reason I liked the O&A show and the reason I stopped listening. He's a very funny guy, but once his political rants that started eating up an hour of the radio show every day (around the 2008 election) I started tuning out.

Still, it sucks that he was fired. I listened to the show for years, and IIRC he used words like 'savage' and 'animal' pretty frequently to describe criminals of all races, especially the ones that committed some kind of violence. Since he was apparently assaulted, I'm not surprised that's how he would refer to the perp.

Kindergartners are so cute.
