SpaceDock Sensor Control: "I don't know where they came from sir! They should not have been able to get this far in-system without setting off the alarms! We are working to identify them now, but they have no transponders!"
SpaceDock Command: "Impossible! The alarms go off automatically unless they are StarFleet vessels, and there are none due in at this time!"
SpaceDock Communications: "Sir, we are being hailed. They say that they are the Alyeska Fleet."
SpaceDock Command: "How can that be? We lost contact with them months ago, and they were classified as MIA."
SpaceDock Sensor Control: "If they are the Alyeska Fleet, why don't they have StarFleet transponders? Also, I am picking up some strange emanations from the engines of those ships. Definitely not what the Alyeska Fleet was equipped with!"
U.S.S. Warmonger: "This is Captain ShotgunSteve in command of the U.S.S. Warmonger, flagship for the Alyeska Fleet. Sorry we've been out of touch so long, but we had some problems on our last mission when we attempted to reach the 2,000 WU MileStone. It seems the Win98SE operating system installed in our ships was becoming more and more unstable, so we had to do an overhaul out in deep space. It took quite a while without support. We've upgraded to WinXP now, and things seem to be running smoothly."
SpaceDock Command: "What are these emanations we are picking up from your engines?"
U.S.S. Warmonger: "In addition to upgrading the OS on our ships, we stumbled across an alien depot concealed inside a hollow asteroid. The designs of their engines were decidedly more advanced than our own 1.4 GHz ThunderBirds, so we thought we would salvage what we could and upgrade our engines. We have a couple of ships done, and will be working on the rest. We figure these are about the equivalent of the experimental XP1800 engines that StarFleet has been tinkering with. By the time we finish with the refit, this little fleet should be a force to be reckoned with."
Translation: My friend's game store is updating the OS on their dozen pay-to-play LAN machines to WinXP, and upgrading their hardware as well, and they are going to allow me to re-install SETI@Home on them. WOOHOO!
