Well, I learned something today.

Went to a cafeteria-style place for lunch. While moving thru the line, I pointed and said "I'll have some of the mixed veggies...the corn w/the lima beans, please."

The guy serving informed me that it was called "succotash."

WTH? It was corn and lima beans, mixed together. It's good...I like my veggies. :)

Why the hell is it called "succotash?" What's it mean?

Another curious thread from yours truly. :)

Search revealed the following:
The ingredients of succotash - corn and lima beans - almost stumped a recent contestant on "Do You Want to Be a Millionaire?" the popular TV game show. Fortunately, he wasn't asked the dish's origin. The name, Stevens says, probably derives from "msickquatash," a Narraganset Indian word meaning "ear of corn."

From this page: http://search.csmonitor.com/durable/2000/05/24/p16s1.htm

And another site seems to back the native american origin: http://www.wholehealthmd.com/refshelf/foods_view/1,1523,151,00.html

What doesn't sound good, oh Poo-Pooer of my threads? ;) It's corn and lima beans. It's pretty tasty. "Tastes good" is relative. For example, I'd rather have my eyes gouged out with a rusty fork than eat Collard Greens. :p Nasty!
