Went to my local booze shop looking for replenishments for the liquor cabinet (usually stocked with some variety of whiskies and rum).

The guy there asked if I'd ever tried sipping rum. Apparently, sipping rums are rum aged in oak casks - much like whisky.

Decided to try out a cheap sipping rum (Appleton Estate VX) and was surprised at how much it felt like a peaty whisky. Had it neat of course, in a chilled glass.

Anyone else here like sipping rums?

Meyers Dark is the best you can find easily.

St Maarten makes awesome rum, but you cant find that stuff up here.

Appleton Estate VX sucks.

try their Extra (12 years old) for more body.

You should also try Mount Gay Extra Old. That is some good rum.

Mt Gay is good, I like appleton estate as well. Never had cruzan single barrel, but I've like all the cruzan rums I've tried.

Myers's Dark is great rum. One of the few that I'll drink after a couple of bad experiences with rum in college.
