Yup. I made the switch a few months back. Sipdroid has been something of a headache (I suspect it's more PBXes.org) but every time I'm having a problem with it I just repeat to myself "$70 a month."

ha! WORD. people have been telling me for YEARS "hey man you need a better phone. get better carrier!" then i tell them i pay $30 a month. then you can see in their eyes all the months adding up of paying at least $50 more then i have. thousands of dollars flash before their eyes:D

There is something to be said for having LTE with 20MB/s down in almost 400 cities though. Up to the individual if they want to pay that cost. :/

There is nothing to be said for having LTE with 20MB/s down in 400 cities and 2GB data caps to go along with that.

Also true. :p

But you will have a great network for the 30 minutes it'll take you to hit that cap.

So, did the OP ever figure out that he should be using Google Voice, and not Groove IP? You only need Groove IP if you don't have a cellular plan, or data connection, and have internet on the phone via wifi.

so true. it would actually be worth the $100 a month if there wasnt a cap... or like a 250GB soft cap. if you could just pay for one internet at home, and take it with you wirelessly then my god would that be awesome. i would imagine we get there at some point.. where the wireless telcos start proving at home internet, but at the rate we are going it will be generations from now.

Not sure if thats feasible, given where the Internet is going. Lots of streaming media, HD videos, music, cloud storage, cloud everything, etc. We've got wired Cable providers crying about people pulling too much data, and their bandwidth is limited by the amount of hardware, fiber and network gear, they're willing to deploy.

As much as I think the 2GB and 1GB metered data plans are a joke, there's not enough spectrum for users to start pulling 50+ GBs per billing cycle.

i really dont know why grooveip gets dogged. it is an outstanding app on android, and i dont have the bad experiences others claim. i just tried it again today, i was out in the edge of town and i turned my sprint touch pro 2 to broadcast its wifi. my inactivated droid x connected to the internet through the sprint network, and i placed a call that sounded better with a shorter delay then my cell voice calls make. i even ran a speed test after.. with 2 bars on my sprint phone it was a whopping 450kbs down, 209up, and 240ms ping.

i just wouldnt rely on it to receive calls all the time. it usually does, but often doesnt. but any missed call goes to text as a reminder anyway... and those always come through eventually.

thats only because there arent enough cell towers though, isnt it?

Others can give you a more technical answer, but not quite. There's only so much spectrum. Over crowd it, and you get problems.

ugh. im sure youre right. radio waves are so lame. when are they going to start using quantum entanglement? it seems so much more practical. and im sure they will. it will be a lot like going back to morse code.... except unlimited speed i would imagine.
