Just wondering if anyone has any insight on whether or not SIOM (Server I/O Module) will be strickly high end server/workstation products, or do you believe we can see something in the likes of external video cards, sas controllers, or any other economical device that runs via pci express.

I figured maybe someone who reads this might have an inside scoop on what to expect.

(note: SIOM is a technology that basically gives an external high-speed PCIe interface for connecting to peripherals)

I doubt it will see any use any time soon in desktop machines. What are you going to hook up to it that you couldn't just stick in an expansion slot in the case?

I could *maybe* see it on laptops that support PCIe, for something like an external video capture card or SAN/NAS connection... still, probably a niche product.
