Well I'm trying to deside what new P4 mother board to get.....(or should I wait for the Cwood's).......but it looks to me like the GB SINXP1394 (GA-8SQ800 Ultra2) and the Asus P4G8X Deluxe are the two front runners. Both with 8x AGP, SATA,....etc.....

the only HUGE point is that the GB board supports PC3200 DDR ram, while the Asus on PC2100 !!!!

are there any downfalls to the GB board.....performance? OC'ing?

Opinions?

Asus P4G8X Deluxe

SINXP1394 (GA-8SQ800 Ultra2)

Well, there are not many reviews of the SiS655 boards out yet, so its hard to say. Let´s hope Evan has his review out on monday). Until now I would say that the SINXP board offers at least the same performance for maybe up to half the price.
Regarding the P4G8X: From what i have read, the 8INXP board is slightly better than the P4G8X but it lacks firewire, but has onboard raid and other nice features instead.
The SINXP will have the same features as the 8INXP AND will also have firwire...and will be cheaper...I might cancel my order for the 8INXP for which I have been waiting for over two months now...depends on when the SINXP will come out..
Will be interesting to see, if the PC2700 support brings any advantages, since the P4 should be satisfied allready with PC2100...

yes, 266 DDR x 2 dual channel = 533, which is P4 current FSB. going over that will not increase performance, but that's only in theory, and benchmarks at OCWorkbench have proved otherwise. check out their reviews, they have a lot of SiS 655 and GB reviews up, much more than any other site to my knowledge. I would say to wait for SiS 655 to come into full swing because it is faster and supposed to be cheaper (actually a consumer-level chip so you dont get overcharged for the "Workstaiton montherboard" chip

no, actually there is also a memory controller overhead that takes up some bandwidth too.
that is why you see the Granite Bay boards trailing the Rambus boards by a little.

However when SINXP comes out....then with it's higher mem. speeds it should surpass the rambus MB correct?

theoretically, yes
but it will be a small difference since the p4's fsb is 533 and DCDDR333 will surpass that speed already
but it will be much cheaper than the rambus solution

If you want a P4 board now, get the Gigabyte SINXP1394 (it's running around $170 in Japan) and should be out here soon. Wait to buy a Pentium 4 until 23 Feb. when Intel will reduce their prices. Try a 2.4B. Or wait until April and get a HT 800MHz P4 2.6GHz and a Canterwood Chipset. Hopefully Gigabyte will make a similar Canterwood chipset to the SINXP1394.

Through the grapevine I heard that the SIS655 chipsets boards can be 800fsb readied with a bios update. Of course this is yet to be reported as the case, I guess we will find out sooner or later.
