help would be appreciated.

What do you find so horrible and crappy about it?

Is it that you find the computer AI not challenging enough? If so, the solution is to play the real Sins game--which is online multiplayer against human opponents. I think it's an awesome game and I really enjoy the 5v5 pug matches where two captains draft-pick the other eight players (like in gym class).

I know it may seem like a dumb question, but have you played through a full game? I can imagine that new players might get turned off by the first 20 or 30 minutes of the game where not much action is taking place, but to me, that's the calm before the perfect storm. If you have played through a full game, what specifically don't you like about it?

BTW it's been a while since I've played it (I don't even have the expansion), but how populated is multiplayer nowadays?

I found Sin's to be quite challenging once the real action starts. It's a typical RTS. Build up for all hell breaking loose. I haven't played it in a while. Might as well drag it back out again.

The only thing I found lacking was that it was ultimately still in a 2D plane. Yes, the ships could move vertically, but not that much, and when you always are looking at it from an isometric angle. I know that a true 3D map would be difficult, but I would love to see a company try (especially one like StarDock that put so much effort into Sins).

Otherwise the game is a lot of fun, albeit incredibly long. I had one slugfest (just a 1v1 against a hard AI) take 14 hours total, but I broke it up across a few days. Big map, tons of planets, we both spread like cancer and had to fight on multiple fronts.

I've tried to get into this game numerous times but have never made it past 30 minutes.

It should be noted, just for those who are wondering, that most online games don't last for more than 2 hours with many ending earlier. (So, no, contrary to what some people might think, it doesn't take 15 hours to play Sins online.) Most games are decided within an hour-and-a-half with the players on the losing team conceding "good game" and then quitting or surrendering. However, some of the games do last longer, but that won't bother you since those tend to be the epic games with very balanced teams. The games really do move much faster when you have all human players.

<Sigh>. The OP never posted what he specifically disliked about this game. I hope he's too busy giving it a second chance.

I didn't notice it at first, but this OP has a tendency to hit and run in areas posting flamebait. In this case, i am not sure how Sins is flame bait, but whatever. He does the same thing in All Things Apple from time to time (and since we are all raving fanboys there, it works everytime :) )

I'm still waiting for the mod or expansion that gives this damn game a campaign/singleplayer mode.

In that case, you're part of a big club.

Have you considered perhaps just playing through all of the maps in some sort of an order? Also, if you're bored playing against the AI, you could always consider online multiplayer for a greater challenge or at least come online and play Comp Stomps (humans v. AI) with other players which would give you other people to talk to. You might find it more fun when you have allies to worry about and to coordinate with.

How long do you have to wait in the lobby for a multiplayer game? Like a 2vs2 or 4vs4. It is an amazing game. I never played multiplayer because after playing about 40+ hours SP I went back to other games.

I know the basics of the game. Are people cool about letting noobs play on their team or are noobs simply fodder for better players, forcing pros to kick them out of the game before it starts?

Was going to buy Entrenchment and give multiplayer a try.

The wait shouldn't be too long between 3 pm and 1 am U.S. Eastern Standard Time.

There are some jerks out there, as with any online game, but there are also a lot of nice, welcoming people. It is possible that you might not be welcome in select 4v4's and 5v5's full of skilled players, but you probably wouldn't have much fun playing in that type of game, anyway. I think your best bet for finding newer players is with regular Sins, but most of the action (especially the 4v4's and 5v5's) is in Entrenchment.

You'll find that the online multiplayer game is much more challenging and perhaps faster than the single player game. You're going to have to take your lumps, but if you're patient and try to learn the game, perhaps watching skilled players in game replays, you can get better and become a competitive player. I think it's pretty much like that with any competitive online multiplayer game, though.

Yeah. lol. Ive played other RTS games fairly competively. Patience is pretty important. Learning the basic tricks takes a few weeks. Mastering them....takes a long long time.

Never quite made the Pro cut, but im pretty good at some of them. I understand the pros, if its not a balanced game, one bad player can ruin the game. "Noob stomps" are are more boring than the AI at hardest level.

But I like games that last 30mmins to two hours. So I think this one might be worth the effort.
