I just finished playing an epic 4 on 4 game of Sins of a Solar Empire Diplomacy over Ironclad Online and wanted to share the replay with other Sins players.

If you've only ever played Sins in single player against AI and wonder what a real game with real human players might look like, you can download and watch this replay. (You need to find your Sins Application Data folder and then add it to the Multiplayer-Record folder, then select "Watch Game" from the Single Player menu.)

I'm in the game playing as "Dirty Sanchez" and all but two of the players (Destiny and Snowmaggedon) are grizzled pros. It turned out to be a great game because the winning team had thought it had lost the game early on and midway through the game, but we staged a game-winning comeback. I was the "eco" player for my team but later bombed out several enemy planets with a Level 6 Egg and five Skinatras (Vasari).

EDIT: This replay does not work. The game minidumped when I went to close the stats. The only thing you can see is credits piling up and the ships don't move. I thought it was OK since I was able to load it up, but I didn't watch it. Sorry for yanking people's cranks. What a shame; it was an epic game.

Here are links to three other replays that I'd posted in the past. I don't think another patch came out since these replays so they should work.

I'm not sure what names I played under in those other three games. Enjoy! I hope this encourages some people to come online and experience the intense fun of playing team games with all human players.

EDIT Feb 21, 2011. Here is a replay of an epic 5v5 pro game that I just finished. I watched the actual replay this time, so I know it works. I'm in the game as Haywood Yablowme. I had a mouse problem early on and ended up playing with a mouse that lacks thumb buttons (which I use for move and attack), so I got off to a slow, noobish start. Fortunately I was in the economy spot. Somehow my team won the game. It was epic because it was a wild game that went back and forth a bit and ended up being a great comeback for the winning team.

Can you recommend a good up-to-date guide for that game?

I would love to get back into it and try out multi player.

New 5 on 5 Replay Posted

I just finished playing an epic 5 on 5 pro game and I thought I'd share with other Sins fans.
I watched the actual replay this time, so I know it works. I'm in the game as Haywood Yablowme. I had a mouse problem early on and ended up playing with a mouse that lacks thumb buttons (which I use for move and attack), so I got off to a slow, noobish start. Fortunately I was in the economy spot and my allies weren't screaming for feed. Somehow my team won the game. It was a wild game that went back and forth. It was epic.

I really thought we would lose the game when we were halfway through and the teams were stacked against us a little bit. Derek and Dead Rat are excellent players and Greg and HuyMac are pretty good too. My team's best player was Auqia. Slackah Chiken and Devious did a bang up job. (Take a close look at the phase lanes around Slackah's starting position and you'll see that he was essentially in a pocket, allowing him and Devious to get a double on HuyMac. I was so caught up in what I was doing that I didn't notice it until I watched the replay.) I also had two planet kills via culture, one of which was Greg's home planet. I always chuckle whenever someone goes down to culture.

How do I watch a Sins replay?

If you've never watched a replay before, first you need to have the current (non-beta patch) version of Sins Diplomacy installed. Download the file and put it in one of your replay folders, preferably Record-Multiplayer. You can find it in your Sins Application Data folder. Instructions on locating it can be found in this thread:

http://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/363325

Once you have the file, load up Diplomacy, make sure that all of your mods are disabled, select Single Player, and then "Watch Game". Scroll through the different replay menus until you find it.

Let me know what you think. I hope that it encourages some more people to get in on the fun of Sins online multiplayer. I don't think you could have a team game like that with just AIs.

So far, the lowest price I've seen on Impulse was $19. At one point the original Sins was on sale for $4 and the two expansions were bundled together for $15, I think. Hopefully the full package will be available for $20 at some point. You might also look for Sins Trinity on eBay.
