Single slot GPUs ?

It seems both Nvidia & AMD are all going the double slot configuration for all new GPUs, and on many motherboards, this ends up blocking PCI or PCIe slots.

Wonder if any of them will offer a single slot design, or is the heat output just too much ?
 
Galaxy released a single slot gtx260 awhile back. Reference design since 9800gt and 4850 for all high-end cards has been dual slot.
 
It’s been the norm since 2004 or so for both vendors’ high-end parts to be dual slot. If you want single slot you’ll need water cooling, or to get mid-range parts instead.
