Hi I just bought a Intel NUC 13 Pro with i51340p chip. I am planning on putting a 4TB SSD in it. I bought the 4TB WD_BLACK SN850X SSD. It is double sided.
Should I prefer a single sided SSD for this NUC. The above SSD does fit, but I am reading it will lead to overheating issues for the two chips facing the bottom and literally resting on the wireless chip. (I don't use the wireless/bluetooth chip). Internet is through wired connection and i don't really ahve anything bluetooth connected to it.
1. Thermal Safety: Is a double sided PCIE SSD a no no for a NUC. Or is it safe if the temperature is with in a safe range? (Some temperature related info below)
a. The resting/idle temperature is around 40-42C. I ran the Crystal Mark SSD Benchmark two times to stress test the HD. The max Temp it reached was 67 degrees....stayed in the high 50's low 60's most of the time. Is this a good assessment of if this is thermally safe?
b. the first 2 dram chips are facing up (towards case heatsink)...the last two are facing down towards wireless chip. HD has only ~100gb of info on it right now....so is it mostly using the first 2 DRAM chips for storage or do they evenly spread out the data? Cause if it's not using the last 2 its possible it will run a lot hotter once it goes over 2TB in storage.
2. Structural Safety:
I did not overtighten the screw, The SSD is flat but the bottom two DRAM chips do touch the Wireless chip....is it a possibility that this pressure against the dram will damage it over time?
3. I guess in summary really just want to know if its okay to go with this double sided SSD as long as temps are within control...I got it at a good price...or should I just bite the bullet and pay a bit higher for a worse SSD that is single sided (SSD prices have just sky rocketed right when I need to buy one
