single sata drive

Hi,

Wondering if there's an optimum SATA port for single non RAID drive connection. The MOB book doesn't recomend. I'm trying to build up a new box with a single sata seagate 200 gig drive and everything in the book is orintated towards raid multi drive. Never set up a single sata drive before. Can somebody recommend port connections/bios set up? 🙂

thankyou.

RAID usually needs a manual for setup. A single (or multiple single) drive(s) don't need special instructions. Just plug it in any of the SATA connectors.

Everything seemed to be going well. It formated my HD loaded drivers so on and so forth and when it should have loaded the desktop it looped back to SetUp and now wants to do it allover again. For some reason it didn't continue. Any thoughts?? To load windows I set it up to boot from cd rom just like in an IDE syst. Do I neeed to do something special with the SATA drive?

For new installs, order of events goes like this:

Start with clean unformatted HDD (connected to MoBo of course, any SATA connector)

Place Windows CD in CD drive (I like to have only one CD drive connected for the install)

Follow Windows instructions blah blah blab.

Format HDD (take a break)

More Windows instructions and at some point enter COA key.

Finish up Windows install and reboot.

Load INF drivers from MoBo CD (Reboot when requested)

Load USB and all other drivers from MoBo CD (sound, LAN, etc) (one at a time, again reboot if needed)

Load Video drivers from Vid card CD.

Atl-CTR-DLT harware manager and check if any ? or ! and take care of those.

I think that's it.

Good luck

Problem resolved. Disconnected my usb card reader and xp finally loaded completly. Up and running to a full desk top. The card reader must have confused the install process some how. 🙂
