Single SATA drive w/ Abit AN7?

Hey all,

This is my last effort to make this work before I ditch the WD Raptor SATA drive.

I'm currently using an AN7, and I believe the bios was flashed with: TicTac/enduracell BIOS 17. I'm very happy with the system, but I picked up a Raptor and have had zero luck making it work. I've googled the issue and found nothing.

Anyone have any luck installing *one* SATA drive with the AN7?

I checked out the Abit website, downloaded the SATA driver disk, but the XP install disk will not see the drive. The SATA controller is enabled in the bios (the raid controller is not), and I'm not really sure what else to try.

Thanks to any with an idea.

I had the same problem when I built my rig. If I remember the manual says a single drive only works when plugged into the "SATA 1" connector on the motherboard. However, I could only get mine working when plugged into "SATA 2". I hope this helps. There is also a lot of info here.

I have the Abit AN7 board, and was able to install WinXP on a single Western Digital SATA drive plugged into SATA port 1. The trick though is that when you install XP, there is an option to load drivers prior to the install. When you boot from the XP CD, along the bottom you'll see a message about pressing a key to load additional drivers. Press that key, then insert the SATA Driver Floppy that came with the motherboard, and choose the driver from the list. I can't remember which one worked for me, but it took two attempts before I picked the right one. Then the installer will detect the SATA drive.

Hopefully that helps,
