Single-player campaign in BF 1942?

Is there a single-player campaign in BF 1942? I have a nephew who loved Call of Duty?s single player game so I thought BF1942 would be a good present for him, but from what I?ve read it seems as though, despite its bot support, there is no actual single player campaign, just a big bot deathmatch sort of thing....is that true?

That's correct. There is no story or campaign driven single player game in BF1942, it's just a conquest type game with a bunch of computer controlled bots. Kinda fun, but nothing like Call of Duty. You could get him the United Offensive expansion to COD (just a suggestion).

Single player is not that great IMHO. The bots are so dumb, no organisation whatsoever.

Yeah, that?s probably what I?ll do ? I was afraid the expansion pack would be too much like the original ? but it got good reviews ? and it?s intended for those who liked the original. thanks guys...
