Single platter 2.5" 7200 RPM drive

I have been looking for a fairly fast non-SSD for a friend of mine for his laptop. I was thinking if I could find a nice single platter drive that ran at 7200 RPM that he would be good enough without having to pay so much extra for an SSD, but I have been unable to find such a drive... Does it even exist?

there's plenty of single platter HDDs out there. what size are you looking for? pretty sure they have 500GB single platter 2.5" drives. there's also the seagate momentus xt hybrid 2.5" drives for not much more than a regular 2.5".

The 500GB XT Momentus isn't a single platter drive, but it still a pretty nice non-SSD option.
Yes, it costs more than a 500GB Black, but the difference isn't extreme.
I'm using one in a desktop machine and can't complain.

yeah. i didn't mean for him to take that as it was a single platter. i was listing it as an alternative to an SSD. once the drive "learns" your habits, it's not a bad option.

I replaced WD Blacks with Momentus XT 320's in two laptops. Noticeably better boot times, etc. The XT's do have a learning curve, and start showing their worth after about 3 reboots.
