In Ontario, like many states in the U.S, we're under a "single party consent" law for recording telephone conversations.

This means that if I want to record a conversation with Person X, as long as I know I'm recording the conversation, it's considered legal regardless of whether Person X knows they're being recorded or not?

Just to be clear

This law is basically to keep a third party (IE - the gubberment) from from listening to and recording your calls without your or the other caller's consent. The gubberment is supposed to get a warrant from a judge if they wish to conduct this type of shenanigans.

You're recording yourself, there just happens to be another voice at the same time.

Yeah that makes sense, this isn't what I expected, I figured it would have been illegal, but I guess the understanding is that when you are talking to someone, there is no assumed privacy between 2 people, but it is assumed that there isn't a 3rd party involved.

Just be careful if you're recording a conversation between yourself and a law enforcement agent. Different wiretapping laws may apply here.

Yea, none of that going on, I would assume that's bad news.
