Single or Duel Monitors

Hi,

I'm undecided at the moment on whether to purchase two 24" monitors at 1920*1080 or one 27" monitor at 2560*1600. I'll be using a GTX680 4GB card and playing the latest games at highest settings but will only be gaming on one monitor even if I get dual screens. I'll be using the PC mainly for gaming, working (software development) and other general tasks such as browsing etc.

I've found one monitor if I do go with the dual option which has some excellent reviews here:

What would you recommend I do here?
 
It's all down to preference.

You say you're developing software? Full time, a hobby, every now and again? If software development is your job then dual screen all the way.

For purely gaming a nice 27" monitor would be really nice. I currently have a Dell Ultrasharp U2711 and i love mine. Even when working in Visual Studio it's got more than enough space for two classes to be side by side.

To be honest, if productivity is your main concern then 2 monitors might be ths way to go. It's extremely handy having two screen to work with. If gaming will be the primary task then i would have gone for a single 27" display.

Great thanks. Yeah I'm a programmer in my job and using Visual Studio. I guess my decision will be mainly decided on if I can game and program at the same time 😀
 
I was in pretty much the same situation as you, being a developer who likes to game too.

I went for a large primary display 30", and a secondary 20" in portrait mode next to it. The only downside I ran into with this was I wanted the ability to upgrade to two 30" displays, so for a KVM I needed one of these:

Although pricey, the thing is awesome and frankly works better than I expected.
 
Also, you can have the game (or work) on the main screen, and a DVD/movie/Hulu on the 2nd full-screen.

I know you can simulate this with a big 27" tv by playing the game in a window and playing the movie in a window, but it's just not the same.

Actually, who are we kidding here, just get dual 27" monitors mmmmmkay?
