single or dual channel ram or all3 sticks all together

i have an asus m5a78l-m/usb3 mobo...problem isthis which would i get better performane out of... a single patriot 8 gig stick...Vs two kingston value ram 2 gig sticks..1333 spd on all ram or put 12 gig into it..cpu is phennom 2 quad core well atually its a athlon am3+ 420e 2.6gig unlocked to a phennom b20e what that is i have not checked exactly..but it runs fine at 2.86 ..and i run linux mint on it rebbeca with kde....
