Single Mom sues RIAA

From the details of the lawsuit, it sounds like her lawyer is a techno-idiot. The RIAA and their "agents" do not have to "invade" or hack into your computer. If you use a P2P app, you're broadcasting what you're sharing and your IP address. She maybe had a wireless router that was unsecured and one of her neighbors made use of her stupidity.

I read halfway down, some of it is just factually wrong. They claim IP addresses are only 9 digits (they're up to 12), and they keep saying that MediaSentry got into her computer. Now, she had to have downloaded something to let them into her computer, unless they're literally hacking into people's computers via file/print sharing or something.

Either way it'll be interesting to see what happens.

My main hope coming out of this case is not so much that she, in particular, wins, because although hers is a sad case, what I think is much more important is that precedent is set. The RIAA cannot be allowed to continue to invade our privacy in the manner which they do.

"Ms. Andersen explained to Settlement Support Center that she had never downloaded music, she had no interest in ?gangster rap,? and that she had no idea who ?gotenkito? was."

hahaha

it doesn't matter. it only matters what a jury will believe/understand.

As much as I am rooting for her, I can't help but think:

You hear that Ms. Anderson?... That is the sound of inevitability... It is the sound of your death... Goodbye, Ms. Anderson...

Unless she is incredibly wealthy and the law firm is huge, I don't see how she could successfully sustain a suit like this against the nearly unlimited resources of RIAAsses. And as others have pointed out here, her lawyers don't exactly seem to be on the cutting edge of technology/technology law. 🙁

Good. I hope she wins, even thought the RIAA will probably eat her, her kid and lawyers as well as anyone who's read that story. 🙁
