Wow really? It's been a while since I bought a bottle so maybe I'm just a poor memory. I should probably check in the new Total Wine & Spirits that opened. They have awesome prices.

It's not clear which bottling of The Glenlivet you mean, but having tried the 12yr, I will say that while it was enjoyable, I don't think I could place it above any of the others I've tried. It just didn't seem to have as much character.

I am going to make a point of trying some of the older offerings from The Glenlivet -- specifically the 18yr and the 16yr Nadurra -- I and expect those to be more impressive from the praise they seem to receive.

I've only had 12yr. Its the shit.

Bought 2 bottles on special for $60 the other week.

Joking aside, what others have you tried? Like I said earlier, I'm no scotch veteran by any means, but I didn't have to go far to find something else that I thought stood well above The Glenlivet 12yr.

I guess at the end of the day, it's whatever tickles your gherkin. Happy for you that your favorite is reasonably priced. :thumbsup: 🙂

I've tried most of the standards. Glenfiddich, JW Blue (Not single malt but good as), and a bunch of others I cant think of the names though.

I just found Glenlivet to be the best, for the price. Each to their own though.

Glenlivet 18yr is $130. There's no way it's worth that.

Glenlivet is the best bang for your buck right now. You can go with some of the more expensive scotches, but you only get like 5% more taste while paying 40% more. You are probably better off upgrading your glasses for better future proofing then getting a more expensive scotch that you are just going to have to replace in a few weeks anyway.

In fact overall, now might not be a good time to buy scotch at all. I hear that Japan is working on a new alcohol fab that will likely be able to make a better scotch then the traditional ones coming out of Scotland. Maybe you should wait for the benchmarks form that new brew.
But then again, there is always something better coming out in the world of alcohol.
 
Agreed that it's all about the Glenlivet. Nadurra is just amazing, the best whisky I've tried, but I can understand it not being for everyone, especially fans of Laphroaig. For ~$60 it just can't be beat.

Scotch is about the land, the water that comes from it, and the wood it sits in. Take that away and it's not scotch.
