What a dumbass.

There's tons of other places where people can donate. Be aware of scams.

Reddit is an interesting place, but the folks there are unbelievably gullible for the most part. People post ridiculous stories all the time and they eat it up because they are so eager to make the pithiest of pithy comments.

A guy recently did this on a photography forum I visit. I asked a few questions about the glaring holes in his story, which he didn't care to answer. Last I checked, he hadn't had any new donations.

Yea it turns out the guy has a massive collection of Atari games worth over 10K but he won't sell it for pennies on the dollar to support his daughter. Instead he uses it to support his stripper habit.

Other poster on link second from the bottom - "You are a single parent raising a daughter on zero income and you're at a strip joint at qcon? Dahanese is right, you need some kind of reality check here. If you could generate income in any way, like selling your Atari collection, shouldn't that be going toward providing for your daughter?"
OP's Response - "i provide plenty for my daughter, I live off savings and slowly peeling away my collections. Im not gonna dump my $10k or more video game collection in one swipe and make .10 on the dollar - Im slowly selling it for the most I can get - I've been in the vintage video game scene since the early 90's."

You'd think people who dwell on the internet would be wise to such nonsense.

When it comes to charity I only donate to the CFC or groups my local VFW has personally checked out. Nothing else.

What's worse, this guy or THOUSANDS of BUSINESSES that make 1000x more than him?

At least his daughter will actually get something. These "none profit" places hardly donate 10c on a dollar.
