Some notebook sellers are like Dell are offering single CPU versions of the Conroe.

Has there been a benchmark of these processors vs the current crop of Intel and AMD single cpu's?

You mean single core?

I don't see any Conroe (Core 2) based systems for sale at Dell.com. What Dell does offer is laptops that have the Core Solo, which is based on the Yonah core.

Single-core Core 2 processors will not be on the market for a while. My memory is that they are slated for next year.

Latitude D420 $1149 "intel Core solo U1300 1.06ghz....."
Is that an old processor?

No, that's a Yonah based processor (released Dec 05). The D420 is a very small machine, so they had to use an ultra low volt Yonah, and I think the only ULV chips right now are Core Solos.

All the Yonahs are mobile chips. Conroes (Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme) are desktop chips.
