Single 5770 only running at x8

Just built a new computer, and I after having a lot of fun messing around with my CPU, I found out that my Radeon HD 5770 is running at PCI-Express 2.0x8 instead of x16.

This is confirmed by both the information in my Catalyst 10.1 drivers and in CPU-Z; the link width is only x8 and the max supported is x16.

Radeon HD 5770: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102858
ASUS P7P55D-E: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131620
Environment: Windows 7 x64 (Related?)

Any insight or assistance would be appreciated.

Edit: I am using the first PCI-E 2.0 slot on the board, as recommended by ASUS for a single card configuration.
