With xmas on the brink, i need to give the family something that i can open, they insist

I am currently running the rig in my sig, i tried to get to 2.6ghz on the cpu, but it was unstable. i can probaly push it to 2.4/2.5 stable.
I am also using a 19" max res of 1280x1024

currently using an 8800GTS 320mb

Im kind of looking to futureproof this, i dont wanna overhaul my rig until windows 7 comes out. to skip vista basically.

i know this is not on topic of this forum. should i consider some more Ram? i currently have 2gb. i am also using xp pro. i am thinking no. but at the sametime could be expensive due to the fact im using DDR1...

3.5gb is max you'll see when you install 4gb. I'd go for a faster videocard, but then again, you play at a pretty low res ... But, you can reuse the vid card in a new rig. Or ask for a new monitor :p

Depends on your particular motherboard actually. (Some motherboard takes up more addresses in the 32-bit Address space) It varies from 2.75GB to 3.5GB in Windows XP 32-bit.

However if you upgrade to a 64-bit OS, then the 4GB limit will be removed.

Also, I doubt that you will be gains in performance because in 32-bit Windows, each application is only allowed to allocated a max of 2GB memory. Unless you are running Vista 64-bit. There is almost no reason to have more than 2GB memory in XP 32-bit.

wow...i guess me mentioing my max res had no bearing on it being a videocard question... thats kind of why i added "i know this is not on topic of this forum"

ill just have to post another thread there :)
