"Who would want to get in on something where you're miserable, poor, broke and ugly and you just have to muddle through until you get to heaven?" asks Joyce Meyer, a popular television preacher and author often lumped in the Prosperity Lite camp. "I believe God wants to give us nice things."

The current generation (Gen Y) is based on entitlement.

ie:
Me, Me, Me

They will probably flock to these Prosperity churches like a magnet.

Great scheme to fleece those self centered snot nosed brats.

Why didnt i think of that?

Because it seems that you have an ounce of character.

Just saw "Waging a Living." Link

A quote from one of the poor people in that documentary about her financial struggle:
"God is neglecting me"

Health/wealth gospel is not at all new, and it's a total fraud. Heck, the Bible features God's main guys being thrown into prison and killed for what they believe - where in the world would you get the idea that God wants everything to be all cushy for you, materially speaking, on earth?

If there's one thing churches are good at it's reading and marketing to to their demographic. In poor neighborhoods they'll preach it's rightious to be poor, in rich neighborhoods, that its good to be rich.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if churches actually taught what the Bible says, instead of what they want the Bible to say? As a lifelong Christian, I'm disgusted by most other Christians and what they believe.

There is no simple answer to this one, but in general the message is to not love material possessions more than God and others, and to take care of the needs of those less fortunate. I say that there is no simple answer because there are cases (Abraham, Joseph, etc.) where people became very wealthy because God allowed it. The implication is that these people loved God above all else, so wealth didn't become a barrier between them and God.

What happened to...

It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God...

I agree. It is not necessarily "good" or "bad" to be rich or poor as long as you put God above everything else. The rich people, however, are giving the responsibility to care for the poor people in society. To whom much has been giving, much will be required.

Wow, nice job calling an entire age group spoiled.

You're officially an old man/woman/sheep.
