Sine Wave or Modified Square UPS

I need to buy some UPSs for my HT and for my PC...

As I understand, a PC and or Monitor can do just fine on a standard square wave UPS.

But... I've got a Marantz Projector, HD DVD player, and Rx that I wan tto be able to pwer down carefully id the power goes out and to condition powe in the event of a brown-out.

I was thinking that I may need a sine wave type UPS or at the very least a modied sine wave UPS for the PJ.

Perhaps this is overkill?

I don't want to overachieve here... Cost is a factor... I just want ro be smart and protect my equipment...

bump... Surprised more folks don't have this question... Or maybe everyone does and hardly nobody knows the answer 🙂

I would go with a stepped sine wave ups
You don't really have to spend a lot of cash to get one.
APC makes some reasonably priced models that work quite well and its usually just as good as what already comes out the outlet.

For any device with a regulated, or better still, switched-mode power supply, the UPS type (modified sine, etc.) makes absolutely zero difference in power "cleanliness", and unless you've got tubes or one of the more wacky varieties of solid-state amp, all modern electronics are designed to ignore the difference anyway.

I'd go with a nice, big APC unit. A used APC with a new battery is an economical solution, and while you don't get the auto-shutdown features found on many of the nicer HT UPS solutions, a suitably massive battery means that you'll have plenty of time to do it yourself.
