Since when do federal employees make enough to afford a Maserati?

They bought it from the DEA as a confiscated drug dealer's car. Don't you read the ads in the back of newspapers??

maybe they have a spouce that has a high paying job. There are many ways the person could afford it...
Hell in our manufacturing dept there is a guy in his late 40's who puts componets together making i guess 15 an hour. He has been here for many years and last year he bought a brand new Jag, owns a big ranch in Tennesee and owns a twin-engine Beechcraft 8 passenger airplane. How? inherantance.
He works because he likes it, it gives him something to do. with little or no added responsibility.

That's a Maserati coupe......depreciation seems to be worse than average. You can pick up a slighty used (read, less than 10,000 miles) for around 60k or so. Granted 60k is nothing to sneeze at, but you mentioned that you saw a CDC sticker. Isn't CDC = Center for Disease Control? I would think that a doctor working there would be able to afford such an auto. You could also just have a car nut that considers cars to be a greater priority in their life.

Hehe...I doubt it. She doesn't seem like the Maserati type. Our last director drove a Ford Contour of all things.

As Citrix pointed out, this is more than likely the case. There are a lot of people who work here with a spouse who works as a physician next door at Emory.
Again, I'm just whining because I don't have one.
It's been mentioned before, but the S.O. could be making a lot of money.
Also, you'd be surprised what you can buy if you're not married. I'm an engineer for the state, and everyone asks how I can afford my "fancy" computer parts, constant upgrades, eating out all the time, etc. I simply ask "Are you married" or "Do you have kids." If they answer yes, I say "the end."
I'm sure this will change once I decide to buy a house or find a woman....but not anytime soon.

Salary isn't always the only source of income. Some people could be playing stock martket, others could be running a business or have some other investment. I work for a software company and we got BMWs, Mercs, Jag convertibles, supped up Mustangs. If you try hard enough you can find a way to afford something you want.
