Oh, and GM also offers a police version of the H1. Anyone seen one of THOSE?

Suffolk Country Police have some Hummers.
I'm not entirely certain but I would say that using those is just a tad excessive.
Maybe it's just me!

Your tax dollars at work.

I've seen several Camaro Interceptors, step-father even has one, and unmarked, mostly SUV's on I40 in NC

Camaros were fairly common for law enforcement cars I thought.. I've heard of Mustangs also...

here in town, our cop cars are: (in order from weirdest to most normal)

VW Beetle
Ford Expedition
Ford Explorer
Dodge Intrepid
Chevy Impala
Ford Crown Victoria (manufactured 20 mins from my city)

European law enforcement has been using sport bikes for a few years now, they realized that more and more cars are being put on the roads that regular patrol cars can't touch. Now if some local police departments started using bikes like that, i'd join the force as a motorcycle cop in a heartbeat.

interestingly enough after readign the posts other than the BMW mentioned it doesnt seem they have moved to using imports yet.......probably only a matter of time

As far as weird goes I would have to say Connecticut had the weirdest police cars.

I don't know if it is in effect now but there used to be a law allowing the police to confiscate the property of drug dealers so the police would have all these strange cars there.

My friend and I were once pulled over by a Pink Mazda MX-5 turbo that had turbo stickered all over it. Once I saw an accident that just happened and the whole undercover police force of CT must have been racing to the scene (flipped over 300Z). I saw a Ranger, Civic, Accord, Grand National, Camaro and some others I forget.

That's pretty funny.

Seen a few Durangos being used by me.

The worst are the stock looking cars without any visible markings or lights, you can't tell what they are until the lights start flashing. Ever been pulled over by a yellow cab? It sucks!

Chevy just recently started offering Camaros specifically designed for police use.

DFW cops have several older Dodge RAMs fitted with Viper engines - making them the predecessor to the RAM SRT/10. I know someone that engaged one once (In a RAM of similar age, but without the aluminium V10)

V8 won because he'd upped the suspension for offroad handling - and the DFW RAM got bouncy wheels pretty quick once they went offroad. Crazy Texans.

WTF are you smoking? I have never seen a dodge ram pick up being used as a police car in any dfw city. Addison has dodge durangos, but they don't have viper engines. Dallas and Texas Highway patrol have been using camaros, vette's and mustangs for a long time. The camaro's have had a police package since the 3rd gens came out.

Maybe I've got the municipality wrong. Or my Texan contact needs to stop smoking the herb when he's driving. But I trust him enough.

Stop believing him then, cause he's a liar or is smoking more than pot. I know several dallas police officer, texas highway patrolmen and a few dallas constables. Several of which drive the camaro interceptors. One guy used to drive a supercharged 5.0 mustang for the highway patrol, and said that the only thing he couldn't keep up with was sport bikes.

What Jeffrey said. I have yet to see a Dodge Ram used as anything other than a work truck for the city.

irvine CA has a civic or 2 as patrol cars...

OC Sheriff has an H1

SANTANA!~ has a chrysler sebring i think with chrome wheels lowered and in general low rider'd out

Hmmm, we have had camaros as cop cars for a long time now... well, at least for the last several years, pretty common for the highway patrol. they aren't that fast though. a couple years ago they ran a camaro at the drag strip for the import show and it ran a 16.7 (this is at 6000 feet elevation though) which i would guess is around a mid to high 15s at sea level. i think it was a '98 camaro... it didn't have the tail lights of the last generation.

I see the yellow cab police cars parked out in front of the stations all the time.

I think the worst was when I got pulled over by a walking cop for driving my roommate's expired car when he asked me to pick him up at the airport (grr..). I can imagine getting pulled over by horse mounted cops might be pretty embarrassing too.

I thought the taillights were the same.

I don't know if it's statewide in Minnesota, but I know there is a similar law in the county I live in. The police force of a town near me confiscated a trans am from a drug dealer and now uses it as a patrol car. It has a crazy paint job from its drug dealing days too. Funny stuff.

California Highway Patrol bought up the very last of the Camaros for patrol use. they have special thin lightbars that look like roofracks when viewed in a rear-view mirror, and no identifying marks on the front of the car, so get used to moving over for all camaros they same way you move over from crown vics.

Actually thats not true. Chevy has been offering a police version of the camero for many years (dating back to atleast 1991).

B4C 'special service' police package became available to law enforcement agencies only. Cars were RS coupes with Z28 5.0 TPI or 5.7 TPI drive trains and Z28 suspensions. These cars came equipped with the 16 inch wheels and P245/50-ZR16 tires, engine oil cooler, rear disc brakes, and limited slip axle. Midyear, the 1LE 11.86 inch front brakes and HD calipers became optional for the B4C. This package was the only way to get air conditioning and the HD front brakes. There were 592 1991 B4C Camaros built.

There was also a later (new bodystyle and the 5.7L V8) package number that you order that had the z28 engine and suspension upgrades on a stock camaro body for signifigantly less than what the Z28 cost. There was a dealership outside of Nashville that sold them (you had to order it special from the factory) for about a year, until they were told (or just stopped) doing so. I looked into getting one but my insurance at the time (cause of age) would have been pretty high).
