Since when did Roadrunner raise their rates?

I've had RR on and off for the last 5 years or so in different markets. I've always paid $39.99/mo with at least basic cable. However this no longer applies? I have standard cable, the enhanced package, digital cable and DVR, and I'm paying $44.95/mo for Roadrunner still. Are they justifying this because of the 3mbps downstream now or something?

No wonder why DSL uptake is growing momentum these days. I almost miss my Verizon DSL (but I do enjoy the 370KB/sec for now).

I used to have the same deal you used to have, except my friend on DirecTV paid $49.95 while I paid $39.95. About two years ago my TimeWarner company started charging everyone $44.95 to simplify billing.

BTW, the bump to 3Mbps by the cable companies is not an altruistic gift. They are doing it because they need the extra bandwidth so they can provide new phone and HDTV service to their customers.

If you really miss Verizon, your expectations must be pretty low. I couldn't kick Hellrizon out of my house fast enough. My DSL line was down for 6 weeks yet they denied I was having a problem. That was just one of the outages I had. I had several for weeks at a time as well. Along with the 2 hour hold times, forget it! They will never get my business again.

Well in NC (Raleigh) you can get Earthlink over cable also. SO I signed up at DELL (they give you $75 for doing so) ans the first 6 months are $29.95 and then after that its $41.95 ($3 cheaper then road runner BUT off the same system)

So one year of Earthlink is going to cost......

$179.70 (first 6 months)
$251.70 (last 6 months)
-$75.00 (Dell rebate)

$356.40 for as full year OR $29.70 a month Now thats a price I don't mind paying 🙂

Well that would be a pretty damn stupid move if that was true wouldn't it? Need more bandwidth for the other services, so they increase the bandwidth available for internet use. 😕

Actually, Verizon's customer service was one of the best I've ever had to deal with. Especially when they gave me a free month of DSL and Dialup because of a billing problem that was my own fault.

Why would it be stupid? Do you really think they can support all the things they need by just leaving their old cable plant alone? Of course not. They needed to upgrade their networks to support the new services that are coming on line which is why you are seeing a bump in speed. I hope you realize how much bandwidth HDTV requires.

Anyway, next stop for DSl is ultra broadband DSL which is 10Mbps+. Again, the bump in speed is not just an altruistic gift. The DSL service providers need the extra speed to compete against the video services of cable MSOs so they need to bump their networks up again. In the end, competition is good and we the consumers win.

Edit: Wag, what one has to do with the other is they both run on the packet networks the cable SPs are using. Since HDTV is digital, it needs a robust digital network to support the massive bandwidth it requires. The cable MSOs upgrade their core networks and as a result, we see an added benefit of extra bandwidth to our end.
