Of course people have freedom of speech. But I can't just walk into a restaurant and start screaming the N word at the top of my lungs; they'd ask me to leave. And they'd have a right to; it's a private establishment. A gaming server is similarly a privately owned establishment, albeit one that is operated over the internet. If the owners of the server feel you are breaking their rules, they have the right to tell you to leave or force your removal through bans. Only a complete idiot would make the claim that someone not being able to speak their mind on someone else's private property is impinging on free speech rights.

I'm a server admin on a server that has loose policies regarding swear words (because we're all adults), but strict policies about racism. We would've banned the OP in a heartbeat. The fact is, even if the OP didn't mean it as racism, "nagger" has become synonymous with the N-word following that episode of South Park. We've banned people for the exact same thing, and they always play cute (no, I said nagger...). They only do it to circumvent the rules regarding racism to feel like they're getting away with something. It's incredibly immature and playing with those people almost always becomes an exercise in frustration because they constantly try to push the boundaries of what is acceptable. They can enjoy all the free speech they want, but if they get banned for it, they have only themselves to blame.

So one episode of South Park is all it takes to get the Yank's thong in a sling, invalidate the english language and flip the switch to "stupid mode"?

Now you are really starting to scare me..."land of the free" my ass.
Land for those with the "right" views is more like it...scary indeed.

Do you know what a meme is? Yes, one episode of South Park can have a significant effect. Have you seen what one picture of a cat with a misspelled caption can do?

What does any of this have to do with freedom?

Pop culture references change the way we think about certain terminology. The word "gaga" has been around for decades, but when someone uses it now, you think of the pop star. In the 1940s when someone said Madonna, they meant the mother of Jesus; in the 1970s, they more likely meant the Beatles song; in the 1980s, they probably meant the pop star. In sticking with the South Park theme, tell me you can hear the phrase "fish sticks" without thinking "gay fish." Colloquial use of language is constantly changing based on elements in pop culture, which South Park is a part of. So, yes, when an episode of South Park comes out which redefines an existing word or phrase, it does cause us to reconsider how we use that word in our language.

From my own personal experience, I never heard the word "nagger" used before I saw it on South Park. I heard "nag" an awful lot while I was growing up though. While use of the word nagger is still pretty infrequent, it does happen a lot more in the wake of that episode of South Park than it did prior. It could be sheer coincidence that the use of the word nagger has skyrocketed in the past couple years, but I find that hard to believe. So I looked at Google trends. Nagger yields nothing. Naggers has a sharp spike in March of 2007 (when the South Park episode aired), and then has fallen off completely. Nag has consistent results going back to 2004. Could it be that South Park affects the language people use?

The OP already admitted he wouldn't use naggers or niggardly when addressing a black person. That's fairly sensitive, isn't it? Why is that language something he feels comfortable using online but not in person?

People who live in glass houses and wear stupid wooden shoes should not throw stones.

Given that you live in a country where people are fined for making "racially offensive" comments and are part of a European Union that is far more restrictive of "hate" speech than the United States, you may want to shut the fuck up.

I think you are confusing the action of encouraging eg. to murder jews, just for being jews publicly, with uttering a single word.

It's quite legal (tried in court) to call an policofficer for an "båtnakke" (none intelligent person)

It's also quite legal (tried in court) to call a muslim woman with a scarf for "håttemåge" (Black-headed gull)

Se we don't take offense to the word.
We take offence to spreading hate in a public forum.

Know the difference between a word, even used in a curse...and then the act of forming words into sentences and looking at the message.

We also have a blasfemy-paragraph here.
Last person to get senteced according to that were nazis in 1938, for passing out leaflets claming that the jewish scripture sanctioned rape of none-jewish women.

Now try looking at the sentences accordingly to §266b in the danish penal code.

And then try you tell me once more that we take offence to single words one more time, smartypants...

"Political correctness" will be the new slavecollar of mordern time...to much focus on the packinging, not the content.

You realize this is not about political correctness but racial hate?

The word is being used as a synonym for a racial derogatory, not as it's true meaning.

This is not what 'freedom of speech' is about.

First, yes it is about political correctness because racial derogatory != racial hate.
Second, yes, that's exactly what "freedom of speech" is about.
Third, you are a dumbass if you think what you said is even remotely correct.
Fourth, "nagger" isn't even a racial slur. Also, see point #3 again.

You people from the US crack me up...."bad words"...give me a fucking break.

Even the UN just stated (After the IOC tired to get freedom of speech limitied due to the muhammed cartoons) that freedom of speech thrumps all...even if the message is "hatefull".

So you keep screaming about civil rights (because you want a second penis(read: gun)...but dare speak you mind....oh noes!!!

Freedom of speech..not in the US

Ps.

You do not have the right to NOT be offended...grow a pair...NAGGERS!

I am a dumbass?

How is it being used in this context:

You realize your double-speak probably works on your parents, but here we get that 'inside' joke.

There more than likely is not one person on this forum that uses the term nagger for it's intended 'group', instead they use it as a tongue-in-cheek version of the racial slur.

No matter how you try to hash it out in your mind as it's just you being misunderstood, no one is that ignorant.

Damn, if nagger is off limits, I'm guessing niggardly is right out? Man... and queer is probably inappropriate, too? :( I used to like words.

Ok, so some dumbasses use the word as a racial slur, and now you believe nobody can use it as defined? See points 1-3. Oh, and read point #4 again.

Anyways, I'm now referring to whatever race you are as "them." I'm also going to use the following words, too: "you, they, he, him, dumbassiusses, ignorantites, and moronionians." These are all intended as racial slurs against your race because you are a moronionian.

Nagger is in no way a synonym for ******, no matter how a bunch of mouth breathing, xbox live dwelling retards use either word.
