Just wondering if they changes their policy cause this is the second time they put the smackdown on me.

First was for a Handspring VDX which was broken, I had just gotten it as a gift and did not have the reciept and just wanted an exchange, they gave me the big F-no and it was a hassle getting the reciept since I felt like a dick asking for it.

Secondly I bought a 30 dollar usb hub which blows, happened to misplace the reciept (paid cash) and they once again told me to screw even though I wanted to exchange for a better(more expensive) item?

when I was living at home (massachusetts) I did this all the time when I got a gift or something and they never even thought of complaining, if it scanned up they were fine, down here in VA they are exceptionally anal about it, is there a difference in state laws that lets them be this way? makes me not want to shop at best buy anymore just annoying.

I actually agree with both of you... :)
Of course you want to be able to exchange broken items even if you've lost the receipt, but at the same time: don't you think that being too liberal with warranty (in general) would drive up prices quite a lot? I mean, we all know margins are pretty small on online purchases...

They can only take so much before they change the rules to accommodate for the liars and thieves

it's because people like the ferengi in hot deals would return merchandise to BB that they purchased at other stores for fun and profit.

I don't blame BB one bit. I'm sure they've been burned so much by unscrupulous individuals.

I'm sorry for your situation, but BB is totally within their right to require a receipt.

I mean no big loss to me, 30 bucks for a crappy usb hub is really nothing, I was just wondering if they have infact changed their policy since I used to be able to do that and now I cannot. When I was there it still said on their board that an exchange witout a reciept was possible however the sales associate said that it was not. Oh well I will just shop at best buy less, they have really bad service and what not out here anyway, least much worse than compaired to when I lived in Mass, people in Mass are much nicer overall there than they are in VA and DC
