Since the the Playstation 2 has USB & Firewire ports...what's preventing one from using the PS2 as a DVD-ROM drive?

I know you can't just "plug and play", but is it even feasible that someone could manage to use the PS2 as a DVD-ROM drive since it has compatible ports with a PC? If it is possible...what is needed?

Hmmm good question, I wonder why no one has HaXored it to make it work as a USB or Firewire drive for laptops and such

I have this thing called the SharkPort for my PS2, which allows me to upload and download savegames to and from my PS2 memory card (example: some crazy guy at IGN actually sat and named almost every player on all 100+ teams in NCAA Football 2002, thus, I could download from some site, and then upload it to my PS2 memory card).

So some type of connection HAS been established...but nothing like full read-access to the DVD drive...hmmm
