Since my Xbox does not do progressive scan for DVDs, recommend a DVD player that does

What prog. scan DVD player would you buy? Needs to have digital optical audio out as well. Multi-format is also a huge bonus, namely DVD-R.

i really like the new liteon one, support DVD-r/+r/-rw/+rw and the big one DIVX

I didn't know Liteon made standalone DVD players. Interesting. Who sells em?

What about this player?

Grrrrr... not fair! I paid three times that amount for my uber-cheapo Sony DVD player less than 1-2 years ago. Judging from the specs, that one you linked to is pretty damn nice. If memory serves, "ColorStream" is Toshiba's way of saying 'component video output.'

Edit for crappy/stuck "A" key.

Let me ask one thing...to be clear about this, because I'm a bit confused now.

I just got a 32" Panasonic Tau with component in. It will take advantage of progressive scan, since it has the component hookups, right? Or am I totally off base here. I've been using S-Video with my Xbox(non-prog scan), will the progressive scan DVD player show a NOTICABLE difference? Should I just get the component hookups for my Xbox? Or not even bother at all and just stick with what I have?

Only HDTVs will take advantage of progressive scan. The component inputs just offer a marginally better picture (over S-Video) for regular TVs

Yup, back a year ago pregressive scan dvd players started at $180! Now you can get em for as low as $60. Either way though you need an expensive ass HDTV to even use it soooooooo don't bother switching just cuz of that, a better reason is cuz a stand alone does have better quality over the xbox and more options.

There are *some* TVs that support 480p (progressive scan) that are not HDTVs but there aren't many of them.

The big thing, on lower-end TVs, would be support for anamorphic DVDs.

Ok, so with that being said, will I notice enough of a difference between component and s-video to warrant getting the cables for my Xbox? Or enough of a difference between that above Toshiba and an Xbox with similar cables?

I am thinking I should just stick with what I have...

Edit: This is the TV I have

I assume it does not support 480p, correct?
