Simultanious 6 Channel and SPDIF playback

My family sort of handed my an SPDIF Interface speaker from their old home theater system, and now i don't know what to do with it.

I can use it with my desktop's motherboard, but it doesn't seem like i can get both the SPDIF speaker and six channel speakers to play at the same time. Anybody manage to get something like that to work?

Once you plug in toslink does it cancel options to turn on other outputs?

No, but it doesn't do anything until i set one of them as the default.

Why are you trying to use both outputs at the same time?

I have a 5.1 sound system that's hooked up through the six channel audio, and i also want to add the SPDIF bar speaker that I inherited.

That's not a good idea. You should choose one or the other. The sound bar will be trying to create a 5.0 effect but it'll interfere with your other speakers in a negative manner.
