simultaneous server connection from home network

Hi,
I've got 2 computers connected to a NetComm DSL Modem/Router by cable. Both computers have access to servers and general internet independently, however, when i try to connect to the same game server with both computers only one succeeds. I have no idea why or how to fix it, can anyone help me?
 
I am not sure if this still holds true, but in the past I had to make sure I had two different external IP addresses. Someone please let me know if this is no longer a requirement. If this is the case you will have to check with your ISP, they may charge extra for this.
