Hello. I was just wondering what running a simulation does in Nero. More importantly if it decreases the chance of making a coaster. Thanks in advance.

Basically all it does is run a test run to make sure everything is ok.... will it decrease a chance of a coaster? Not usually. The coaster problem is just buffer underruns.... just dont run any programs while your burning unless you have Burn Proof.

Thanks for the help. I knew what simulation ment. I was just wondering if there was a reason why it was checked by default.

I've made only one coaster with my plex 12/10 and it was the first cd I tried burning. I was making an audio cd from mp3's and the first file had an error so the burning stopped. That's the kind of thing you can find out by doing a simulation first :) I always do it now...

It's checked for the first time you burn because it has to check if your burner can burn at that speed before it actually starts the burning process.

Wow, I said burning a lot in that thread. :D

The simulation should catch any buffer underruns. For example, if you have a 12x burner (no burn-proof) and you are trying to copy from a music CD in your CD-ROM AND your CD-ROM can only do DAE at 8x, the simulation will report a failure. If you didn't have simulation checked, your burn would have started but would have failed, resulting in a coaster.
