SIMS: HOT DATE crashing in XP

Nobody responded in games forum, so I figured I 'd try here. Any ideas to try would be greatly appreciated.

This has been working for a long time on my XP machine.

Just the other day, it started hanging at the startup when it says "redefining family values".

It just sits there. I tried removing and reinstalling it....the SIMS works fine alone and with the first two expansions installed. As soon as I load HOT DATE back on, same problem comes back.

I attempted to do a system restore to before the problem, but when I did that SIMS just says it can't find a "data directory" when started.

Any ideas? EA won't even give any ideas because I'm using XP.

WOW! I got a reply! Yahoo!

Anyway, yeah EA is a buncha lame arses. Their biggest title out right now and they won't support XP...even though the game appears to run perfectly fine under XP without having to do any tweaking at all. I know several people who are running it on XP and have no problems other than it seems to slow down an unusual amount sometimes for no reason.

Anyway, I have completely removed it and reinstalled several times. With the SIMS, Livin' Large expansion, and House Party expansion in, the game runs fine. As soon as I put HOT DATE expansion back in, the problem appears again.

I can't make any sense of it. This was running fine for about two months now.

The only thing I did right before this happened was I tried running the QFix APP from the MS Application Compatability Toolkit with the "win98" layer selected, which caused it to crash. I was hoping to mabye fix some of the slowdown in the game with that.

I of course assumed this somehow messed up the exe, but I can't figure out why any changes made by that would persist after a reinstall.

I have also uninstalled the Comp toolkit hoping, but that didn't help either.

Any ideas???

well you could reinstall your OS, you said it worked at some point before, it should work again, you could ask in the forums for The Sims at EA, after you get it running again about the other problems .. well good luck ..

Quote from EA's website

"Is Hot Date compatible with Windows XP?

At this time Hot Date is not compatible with Windows XP and we have no plans that this time to make a patch for this. "

This really stinks, as i wanted to start playing this game and i'm running XP

Well, as I said, the game DOES run under XP. Until this problem showed up this week, I had been running it for about 2 months. I have two other friends running it on XP as well with no problems.

EA is just being lame.

every other game played fine , but this thing is a system killer.sombody really should make a sims crusher demo for bench marking video cards from this, it's worse than aqunox.
changed the ram and works great.
also watch your downloads. get file cop and use it. keep track of what you install and how. lots of screwed up files out there for it. good luck and have fun
