Sims 3 for a 10 year old?

My daughter has been bugging me for Sims 3. I know little to nothing about these games except there are a billion add-ons and expansions and junk.

Is there ONE I should get? Is this game suitable for a 10 year old girl? She loves these types of games, but there seems to be either ones for little, little kids or "The Sims" -- nothing really for those 'tween ages.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't even bother with any of the expansions. The plain old vanilla "Sims 3" should have enough content for your daughter to enjoy. If she really likes it that much, then maybe you could buy her an expansion or two sometime down the road, so she can add more stuff to the game.

Keep in mind the game is T rated, and has some (very mild) violence and sexual references. From what I've played it's probably nothing that a 10-year-old can't handle, however you can check ESRB's website just to make sure. http://www.esrb.org/ratings/synopsis.jsp?Certificate=26182

yeah i wouldn't jump on the expansions out of the gate (though maybe the "Pets" one fairly quickly).

She's resourceful and will dig up information on all the expansions quickly. She's quite the whiz on such things. What she's figure out on her own with Minecraft is mind blowing.

I was more worried about the "T" rating. If I recall those games at all though you more or less have to get the SIMs into those "situations" for the "T" to kick in.

Probably is fine. Probably no worse then PG13 movie. The sexual references is really just when you get together with another sim from kissing to them making whoopee when they go under the covers and you just see lots of movement from above.

If it means anything: I first played "The Sims" all the way back around 2000 when it came out, and I was 10 years old at the time. I specifically remember making my Sims kiss each other repeatedly to make babies. I also remember the "vibrating love bed" from one of the expansions - I think it was House Party? - where your sims could insert a coin and play around underneath the covers, while the bed mechanically shook and wobbled around.

That was about as far as it got though. Despite how many hours I spent playing that game, I like to think it didn't affect me much. :p

Honestly, a lot of it simply depends on your daughter. There are 10-year-olds with the maturity of 18-year-olds, but at the same time, I've also met 18-year-olds with the immaturity of 10-year-olds. Assuming your daughter isn't completely paralyzed by subtle, cartoony sexual references, I say go for it.

LOL gotcha. I don't even think she'd UNDERSTAND the sexual references.

My youngest sister "played" the Sims when she was 10. It basically amounted to her building house after house after house because that was the most interesting part of that game.
