I'm not sure if this is the same episode, but the Simpsons have had a computer before. Homer starts a website and calls himself "Mr. X" and writes gossip and make believe exposes. Then people from a mysterious island come and kidnap Homer and leave a fake Homer in his place. Apparently one of his make believe exposes actually uncovered a secret plan to make people buy more during the holiday season.

LOL, I laughed so hard at that episode.. the guy who sold Homer his computer was sooooooooooooo good..
