Finally, I installed the new release on two laptops and every single hardware component works out of the box even the linksys B/G pcmcia card and Dell 1390 wlan. I am finally in Linux heaven 🙂

On average, "broadband" (loosely defined as anything fatter [not a typo] than 56k) costs $35/mo - dial-up $10/mo.

Typically, you can save $300/yr by using dial-up vs "broadband".

Doesn't matter, really to me. I'm liquid as hell - floating in cash - but others are trying to save their asses, and "broadband" isn't high on their list of 'must-haves'.

Since, Linux, et al, was designed for ppl in grass-shacks - and the newly forming Amerika - don't you think it would be nice to get dial-up working in Linux?

Or, is your savior, Obama, gonna save "broadband" too ?!?!? 😀

So? That $300/yr is well worth it to avoid the frustration that comes with dial-up IMO.

Dial-up in Linux works fine when you have a real modem. Back in the late 90s I had an external USR modem that I used every day in Linux. Internal ones are iffy because they're usually winmodems these days and although I've seen drivers for them around I've never had to get one working.
