So I got a Simpletech Simpleshare 250 GB NAS, and I cannot for the life of me get it to work. I go through the setup, the web interface works fine, get it all setup, but I cannot connect to it by doing \\simpleshare or \\192.168.0.197 (The device IP address) Both methods work fine for the web interface. My computers say that they cannot find the network name or address. I have turned off software firewalls on the machines that have them, and according to the directions and web config utility, the drive should be working fine. Anyone have any ideas before I call support tomorrow?

Do you have a link to the specs? It may not support the windows file system, not all do.

Since you can connect via web based utility, then you have connectivity, make sure the device is in the same Workgroup as your PC.

I've had it both ways. Same workgroup and different, neither work.

Yes. THAT way I get an error saying I am not authorized... I have added myself as a user and made my username and password match what my PC uses, but no luck

Man, ur in a pickle! Is it possible that simple filing sharing may be causing this issue?

What is that? I have shared files on one PC that every other PC is able to access, so I assumed that wasnt an issue?

I'm out of ideas for now, I'm sure someone around here will have some more. I'll post back if i think of anything else. It sounds like theres a config or hardware issue on the NAS itself though...

Just a shot in the dark, you did use the default User Name "admin" and Password 'simple" when you set it up?

I originally had changed the password. Since then I have reset it a few times in troubleshooting, so it is currently default.

Edit, just went in and set the admin password to my usual username and password, same as my PC. Still same thing happening.

If you set up a user id on the NAS, did you also put in the "connect under a different user name" option. I'm not sure you can pass that information properly with a NAS.

Well, I finally got through to technical support, and apparently there is a bug with the 1.07 firmware that the printer sharing is on by default, but if you aren't actually using a printer you have the problems I was having. Turn off the print server and it is working fine now. Go figure. Thanks everyone for your help.
