I'm actually a networking noob and was thinking of getting this to start.

I've got a Cable modem with a basic linksys router, if I get this NAS would I also need to set up a VPN? What else would I need to set up a VPN?

no vpn is needed to use this on your internal network. Anyone know if this is fat32 only?

I got a Fantom Titanium II 250 GB external hard drive from Buy.com and it contains an MDT MD25 hard drive.

MDT is apparently Magnetic Data corporation, a company in Sinapore that sells recertified OEM hard drives.

Drive doesn't have any bad sectors and is fine for the couple days of ownership so far (except it's noisy).

Anyone know if any of these other off brand external hard drive brands are also using these recertified drives?

A review I read of the 160 GB version of this SimpleShare used a Hitachi Deskstar 7200 rpm drive, I would assume the 250 is similar.

I originally ordered and got the "On Order" run around with typical CS responses about not getting more from the manufacturer.

So I cancelled and ordered from chiefvalue.com. Still a good deal there.

I got a notice 2 days ago that mine is was shipped. It is 2 days out and should arrive friday. I ordered it like 3 weeks ago too and it has been delayed because out of stock but they had an order incomming apparently. There was no rebate so I am not sweating it.
